The Summer of...Fun?

Okay, here I am admitting to all of you that as the school year is coming to a close I am already anticipating the beginning of the next one. "Why?" you might ask. Well, remember how, about 10 months ago, I was crying over leaving my kids at school and feeling so empty? News flash: I love my time to myself. Though the hours aren't many, my "free" time has been absolutely sensational. This past week, the end of all of that came frighteningly into view. I don't want to give it up. To make matters worse, all the camps I was hoping to put the kids into are either full or not really as ideal as they seemed.

This woman needs some help/advice. I will, without a doubt, be registering the kids for camps early next year, maybe as early as January. But this summer is a big blank slate. What should I do with my kids this summer and how do I get some free time? Words of wisdom are being sought from all corners. What do you do? What does your neighbor/best friend/sister/mother/uncle/cousin do with their kids over the summer? Help!

Do they have summer rec out there? I can't remember how old I was when I started going.

What about vacation bible study?

Is there some farm where you can send them? You know, to milk cows and such?

Did you say "my friend Craig?"

Did you say gluten yadda yadda cookies on your last blog and than curse forgetting the Lays?

You can't eat gluten free stuff and Lays. It's against the law.

I should be doing something wildly productive and motherly and wifely, and yet I'm messing around on the computer, laughing at your colorful, vivid descriptions.

I have a book here written in the 50's by a woman with enormous eye glasses and 8 children you really need to read. She suggests that you give all your children lots of jobs and then you all work your butts off till you're done and then when you're done, you'll be too tired to need any alone time and you'll just fall asleep.

I'll send it to you.

Love ya!

I agree with Jen - you can't eat gluten-free stuff and Lays. It's nutritional hypocrisy.

Tiff, whenever I have both of my grand-children for days on end, a situation that occurs quite often, I take teenagers with me. While the children play with the teenagers, I read and write. I'm right there on site in the event of a catastrophe, but I'm relatively free and able to accomplish much more than I would otherwise.
